Version pachto (pushtu)

Pushtu Version Pushtu est la langue parlée en Afghanistan (q.v.), en Asie ; on l’appelle donc aussi afghane. Nous n’avons pas encore de version complète des Saintes Écritures. Le Nouveau Testament fut d’abord traduit par le rév. J. Lowenthal (d. 1864), un converti du judaïsme. Outre le Nouveau Testament, les livres historiques de l’Ancien Testament ont été publiés par la mission de Serampore. Actuellement le rév. T. P. Hughes, de la Church Missionary Society à Peshawer, prépare une traduction de l’Ancien Testament en pushtu. Le comité de la British and Foreign Bible Society fit imprimer quelques feuilles de son manuscrit par le procédé zinco-photographique, pour les soumettre à des savants afghans en vue d’obtenir l’impression de l’ouvrage complet de la même manière.
