Stephen Batman

Batman, Stephen, ecclésiastique anglais et poète, naquit à Bruton, dans le Somerset, en 1537 ; il étudia à Cambridge, devint aumônier de l'archevêque Parker, et mourut en 1587. Il publia The Travayled Pilgrim, « une romance allégorico-théologique » de la vie humaine (1560, 4to) ; A Cristall Glass of Christian Reformation (1569, 4to) ; Joyful News out of Helvetia, déclarant la chute de la dignité papale (1570, 8vo) ; Treatise against Usury (1575, 8vo) ; Golden Book of the Leaden Gods (1577) ; The Doom, avertissant tous les hommes du Jugement (1581, 8vo). — Rose, Biog.
