Acosta, José d', un jésuite espagnol, né vers 1539, nommé provincial des Jésuites au Pérou, et mort recteur de l'université de Salamanque, le 15 févr. 1600. Il écrivit The Natural and Moral History of the Indies (Séville, 1590, 4to) ; un traité De Christo Revelato libri novem (Lugd. 1592, 8vo) ; De Promulgatione Evangelii apud Barbaros (Cologne, 1596, 8vo).
